Folding@Home,
a "distributed computing" program run by Stanford University. This
simple program studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related
diseases. Help search for a cure to many of today's diseases (Alzheimer's,
Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease.). Simple to setup, forget it
once it is there. Would you like to see a FLASH demo on Folding@Home? Contact me
for further information.
Folding@Home makes the news yet again: Medical News Today
- Could your home computer help cure Alzheimer's disease? Vijay Pande, PhD,
assistant professor of chemistry and of structural biology at Stanford University,
believes the answer may be yes. He's devised a way to identify potential drug
compounds by using a network of more than 150,000 home computers and some
innovative algorithms. He said the method accurately predicts how well molecules
will bind to a given protein. Proteins are the ubiquitous workhorses of living
systems and most diseases can be traced to protein malfunctions of one kind or
another, so designing a compound that binds to a particular protein is an early
step in drug development.

Another distributed computing program,
Seti at home for the more adventurous of us. This
program, like Folding@Home, will use your computers spare power to look for, shall
we say, ET by listening for artificial radio signals coming from other stars.

need to say "excuse you". The goal of the project is to visit each of
